About the Show

Step back to Maitland in 1900, when Andrew “Banjo” Paterson
delivered a stirring lecture across the road at the Town Hall during his celebrated tour.
On the 125th anniversary of that visit, acclaimed bush poet Gregory North retraces Banjo’s footsteps.

Hear Paterson’s much-loved poems alongside vivid stories of his extraordinary life,
including his time as a war correspondent during the Boer War.
Gregory’s unique performance style brings Banjo’s wit, warmth, and Australiana to life.

When: Sunday 12th October. Doors open 1:30 pm for 2:00 pm show.

Step back to Banjo’s era with refreshments inspired by the bush and the times.
From damper-on-a-stick with “cocky’s joy” (golden syrup) to fruit cake and cheese, from a colonial sherry to a playful rum & sarsaparilla, we’ve kept it simple, hearty, and full of character.
Pair it with a good coffee or tea and enjoy a true taste of the past.

Minors are welcome to attend accompanied by a guardian aged 18. or over
Non-alcoholic drinks will also be available for purchase.

  • Campfire Damper Sticks
    • Rustic oven-baked sticks, served with “cockies’s joy” (golden syrup & butter) – a taste of the bush brought indoors. $5
  • Fruit Cake with Creamy Brie
    • An old NSW custom, pairing rich fruit cake with soft cheese. A simple, hearty indulgence. $7
  • Waltzing Spritz
    • Sparkling wine lightened with soda, a dash of fruit syrup, and a twist of lemon. $10
  • Waltzing Spritz (No-Alcohol)
    • Soda with fruit syrup and lemon – all the sparkle, none of the wine – $5
  • Colonial Cooler
    • Dark rum with sarsaparilla, finished with lemon – spirited, nostalgic, and refreshing. $10
  • Colonial Cooler (Temperance Version)
    • Sarsaparilla with lemon — a teetotaler’s delight – $5
  • Sherry
    • A small glass of Harveys Bristol Cream — smooth, sweet, and very Edwardian. $7
  • A variety of Tea & Plunger Coffee $4
